West Virginia Project Archaeology Facilitator Training June 20 - 23, 2006 Camp Washington Carver Clifftop, WV |
| What is Project Archaeology?
Project Archaeology is a national archaeology and heritage education program for educators and their students (www.projectarchaeology.org). The goal is to promote awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of our cultural resources and heritage sites. Project Archaeology teaches scientific inquiry, citizenship, and cultural understanding and is an excellent way to meet West Virginia state content and standard objectives for history, social studies, and science. Project Archaeology lessons target the third through the eighth grades, but the curriculum can be adapted for a variety of ages and settings. |
West Virginia Project Archaeology seeks educators and archaeologists to become facilitators who will learn the Project Archaeology curriculum and develop lesson plans. This four-day workshop will train facilitators how to teach and implement lessons from Intrigue of the Past: A Teacher's Activity Guide for Fourth through Seventh Grades. Educators and archaeologists will also work together to develop lesson plans using data from West Virginia's archaeological sites that fulfills West Virginia state content and standard objectives. One to two day Project Archaeology Teacher workshops will be held throughout the state in the future. |
