All text on these pages is Copyright © 2001-2023 CWVA, except where noted.

Permission to make digital or physical copies of part or all of CWVA's work for is granted without fee provided that copies are not made or distributed for profit or commercial advantage and that copies bear proper citation of source and copyright. Citation should refer to the particular item (for example, an image), the Council, and the web address of the item. For example, the appropriate citation for information from a page entitled "Page Name" would be: Source: Page Name, Copyright © Council for West Virginia Archaeology (http://cwva.org). You may print, make photocopies, or download materials from this website for these purposes without prior permission. Abstracting with credit is permitted.

Copyrights for components of this work owned by others than CWVA must be honored.

For other uses of materials from the website (for example, reuse on a website, commercial products, publication, broadcast, mirroring, or anything else that does not fall under "fair use") we require that you contact the CWVA in advance for permission to reproduce the materials. When you request permission to use material from our site, please refer very specifically to the information you intend to use. You may contact us by email to either the webmaster or the President (linked on the home page). We can also put you in contact with the copyright owners of photos, text, and other material produced by Council members.

We believe all unattributed photographs used are in the public domain, and unattributed text that may be copyrighted qualifies for the fair use doctrine. We use unattributed photographs only when it is difficult to determine the true owner of rights -- for example, from sources that do not provide information on obtaining permission for reuse, or photographs that appear on multiple web sites without attributing the copyright owner. However, if you see material for which you own the rights, please contact the webmaster, who will either properly accredit the material or remove it.

If you believe that your work has been copied in such a manner as to constitute a copyright infringement and you want it removed, please notify the CWVA president or webmaster using an email link on our home page. To preclude frivolous or false claims, please observe the following procedure:

In your notification, provide the following information:

  • Identify yourself as the copyright owner or the person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner
  • A description of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed
  • A description of where the material is located on our site
  • Your address, telephone number, and email address
  • A statement by you that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
  • A statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
